The Wellcome Trust-MRC Institute of Institute of Metabolic Science in Cambridge, is inviting applications for a Fixed Term Clinical Research Fellow post.
This post represents an excellent opportunity for a medically qualified trainee with an interest in oncology, endocrinology or metabolism to join a multidisciplinary team of clinical and basic scientists investigating the drivers of appetite and body weight loss that occur in cancer cachexia. By doing so, we hope to develop new treatments for this condition.
The post-holder will play a key role in studies aiming to understand how cancer biology and the endocrine system interact to bring about muscle wasting, fat mass loss and systemic sickness seen in cancer cachexia. These studies will involve human participant and laboratory analysis.
The successful applicant will ideally have some previous research experience but this is not essential as full support and specific training will be provided.
The post will be held in the Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science under the direction of Dr Tony Coll but with close working links with colleagues in Oncology and Psychiatry.
The post is supported by the CANcer Cachexia Action Network (“CANCAN”) group, a US/UK consortium funded by Cancer Grand Challenges (Cancer Research UK and the National Cancer Institute in the US).
