Obituary: Nathalie Josso

In memoriam: Nathalie Josso (1934 - 2022)

Nathalie Josso, MD, PhD, was born in Paris in 1934. She obtained her MD degree from the University of Paris and did her internship in Paediatrics at Necker-Enfant Malades Hospital. Passionate about research, she was a disciple of Alfred Jost at Collège de France, with whom she learned about the existence of the “Müllerian inhibitor”. Nathalie combined clinical work as a consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology and her passion as a researcher at INSERM. She created the Unité de Recherches sur l’Endocrinologie du Développement at the Ecole Normale Supérieure, where she led a successful team that resolved the glycoprotein nature of the Müllerian inhibitor ―that she named Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH)―, and then subsequently cloned its gene and the gene of its specific receptor AMHR2. An ESPE member, Nathalie received the Andrea Prader Prize in 1992 as the major contributor to the knowledge on AMH. She never abandoned her passion for AMH, and has been an active author until recently. Nathalie was fond of Paris, arts and boating; she loved sharing her time with her family and friends. Nathalie left us on November 20^th 2022, surrounded by her family, serene, after a happy and full life.
