According to research set to publish in Frontiers of Aging, 75% of research labs use male mice in their studies meaning that the efficacy of drugs are not suited to women. Sex differences in mice are ‘stark’, with female mice exhibiting different genetic behaviours before and after birth. The study concludes that more research is needed into the sex differences in mice to ensure that medicine benefits men and women.
