Researchers suggest that fructose consumption drives obesity, diabetes and fatty liver disease, as it stimulates food intake and reduces active energy. The study, published in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, found that fructose activates a “survival switch”, similar to hibernating animals.
