Menopause study finds increase in post-reproductive lifespan in chimpanzees

According to research published in Science both humans and chimpanzees experience menopause at 50, followed by a long life post-reproductive age. Researchers suggest that in both species the age of reproduction ends in midlife, and raises questions as to why menopause remains at this age whilst lifespan continues to increase.
