New research identifies rare genes behind early menopause (1)

13 Sept 2024

Two large-scale studies have identified key genes that regulate the timing of menopause and the overall length of a woman's reproductive span. One gene, ZNF518A, was found to shorten reproductive lifespan by over six years. Some of these genes may also impact cancer risk. The findings, published in Nature and Nature Genetics, suggest that targeted gene therapy could lead to new infertility treatments.
