Preterm birth risk associated with both paternal and maternal mental health

Research published in PLOS Medicine found that the risk of preterm birth among babies whose fathers have psychiatric diagnoses is increased by 6.3%, only 1% lower than babies whose mothers have these diagnoses. Stress-related disorders in both parents can increase the risk of preterm birth by 90%.
